CASE STUDY

TIMES OF INDIA 90° VRC

Bennett Coleman & Co., India, which is the owner of one of India’s most popular dailies, required a 3 Tonne capacity VRC at their Bhosari press unit. Their required was that the material flow pattern should be in a 90° flow path. Additionally, the lift was to be fitted inside a shaft well.

After analyzing the available space requirements and constraints, engineers at Datar Engineering, concluded that the VRC must be a 4-post design, with suitable modifications in size and configuration  to the carriage.

The customer also requested that we provide capability for loading from 2 sides on the ground floor ie. The material flow pattern would be a hybrid of 90° and C-type loading and unloading patterns.
Utmost care was taken to ensure that there is no level difference between the floor level and the VRC carriage level, because for such a huge load, any variation in height may be inconvenient, or at times dangerous.

The VRC was supported by safety cams on all 4-Posts and a safety enclosure was provided all along the VRC. As an additional safety feature, landing doors on each floor were of mechanized vertical bi-parting type, interlocked with lift operation.

The VRC control was ensured by use of PLC s in the control panel, and a Variable Frequency Drive.
Bennett Coleman & Co. are very highly regarded customers of Datar Engineering, with over 6 successful high-capacity VRC installations all over India.
